A personal project of mine to see how I can continually press the advancement of a concept through development.
Nicknamed as the CMYK Tree, this piece originally started out just as a simple drawing on a piece of paper. Progressively though, I wanted to do something more with it, I scanned it into the computer, blew it up to the size of a modest banner/tapestry, and printed out on to a canvas type paper.
Then I went over all of the leaves with a fine sharpie, which gave the whole piece a bit of sustenance, no longer light grey from the faint traces of the pencil being reprinted. Now It was bold and could be really seen from a distance, and gave the piece a bit of depth in complexity.
But it wasn’t enough, it still felt like it was able to become more. So I thought about it for a long time and eventually decide how I was gonna kick it up a notch.
Rescanning it in to the computer I then picked out the colors of Cyan, Yellow, and Magenta as the colors for the leaves and picked black as the background to give the tree a centerpiece look and feel.
I now have goals to reprint this at the original tapestry size again, this time with the color added, and definitely on the canvas paper again too. The canvas really makes it feel different from the traditional posters and is probably my favorite part of the piece so far.
Also entertaining the idea of using a type of Vantaa black and just painting it to the canvas after printing the tree without a background in order to really create a sense of 3D depth to the environment the tree sits in within the piece.
